Country-Music Star Announces National Community-Building Tour

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) January 17, 2008 -- Award-winning country artist and songwriter Michael Peterson, whose career surfed the top of the charts with hits like "From Here to Eternity," "Drink Swear Steal & Lie" and "Too Good To Be True" announced today he is launching a national tour promoting the strength and values of America and its citizens.

The "My Real Life -- Strong For America Tour," which is being presented by the U.S. Army and supported by other sponsors such as the American Legion, New Holland Farm Equipment, Prince William Marina/Sea Ray Boats and others, challenges students, civic and business leaders and other community members to engage in building their community through several free initiatives and programs. Rejecting the traditional artist approach of in-and-out, one-night-only concerts, Peterson is investing a week of his time in each city.

"This Tour isn't about me," said Peterson. "I'm just a catalyst to help motivate a spirit of community-building that already exists. The star of this Tour is the individual who takes steps to invest more of his or her time and talent back in the community. Through the generous support of the U.S. Army and our other national sponsors, we are able to introduce tangible programs such as school assemblies, mentoring programs, internship programs and volunteer-match programs at no cost to these communities."

"The U.S. Army is thrilled to present the My Real Life -- Strong For America Tour, reflecting our commitment to planting seeds of values to grow strong Americans. The Army supports the notion of building a stronger America at the grass-roots level," said General Michael Rochelle, Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Army G-1. "Michael Peterson and the My Real Life -- Strong For America Tour represent the values that our Army is built on and we applaud the efforts of everyone who reinvests themselves into students and their communities."

The Tour's first stop is Knoxville, Tennessee with activity beginning February 18, 2008 and continuing through Sunday February 24. Other cities on the initial phase of the Tour include Greenville, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; Dothan, Alabama; Columbus, Georgia; Evansville, Indiana; Midland, Texas; Waco, Texas; Lawton, Oklahoma; and Lincoln, Nebraska.

In each city, the Tour will feature a series of events designed to motivate community members and explore specific ways that citizens can make volunteerism part of their "real life." The events will focus on ways to help students who need guidance and direction, mobilize adults who want to effectively and efficiently invest their time and talents back into the community and provide retirees with a way to share their resources, wisdom and time.

In local high schools, Peterson will deliver an assembly program titled "Tag, You're It!" which will move young people to take action about their future in both inspiring and surprising ways.

"Our mission is to spend a week planting grass-roots programs and celebrating community," said Peterson. "Once the programs are introduced, we get out of the way and let the communities do what they do best -- build stronger Americans."
